CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland woke up to a familiar winter sight. Snow on the ground, below-freezing temperatures and a weather warning predicting more to come. After the National Weather Service issued a lake-effect snow warning on Monday forecasting up to 16 inches of snow in some parts of Greater Cleveland, overnight snowfalls began to make good on that promise. While the west side of Cuyahoga County saw 1 to 2 inches of snow on average by early morning, the east side had already seen 3 to 6 inches. Farther out in Geauga County, Chardon already experienced up to 8 inches of snow. The National Weather Service forecasts that snow showers will continue until about 1 p.m. and patchy snow conditions will continue until 3 p.m. Daytime snow accumulation can be up to 4 inches, and a chance of additional snow showers could occur between 9 p.m and 10 p.m. on Tuesday at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, the weather service’s main recording spot for Cleveland. The east side of Cuyahoga County is still forecasted to receive up to 6 inches of snow and 30 mph winds, according to a 7:01 am bulletin from the weather service, confirming the area is still in a lake effect snow warning. Up to 5 inches of snow could also accumulate in eastern Lake and Geauga counties, especially in areas with higher elevations. The high temperature will only reach 30 degrees, and the low temperature tonight will drop back to 19 degrees. For the rest of Greater Cleveland, Lorain, Portage and Summit counties are under a winter weather advisory and Medina County has a hazardous weather outlook. The hazardous weather is still expected to end by Wednesday morning, although there is now a slight chance of snow showers on Wednesday night. But by Thursday, temperatures will return to the high 40s, with a high chance of rain Thursday night and throughout Friday. Saturday is forecasted to be clear, and then more rain is possible on Sunday and Monday.Zachary Smith is the data reporter for cleveland.com.
