CLAYTON — A Riverview man was convicted this week of murder in Pine Lawn.

Kevin Fields, now 20, was 17 when the killing happened but was certified to stand trial as an adult in the 2021 case.

Jurors in St. Louis County convicted him Wednesday of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Christopher Chaney, 39, was fatally shot in the 3800 block of Jennings Station Road in Pine Lawn on Nov. 10, 2021.

The North County Police Cooperative said Fields was arrested the same day as Chaney's slaying. Chaney had made "a dying declaration" that Fields shot him, police said.

Surveillance video showed a dark Chrysler 300 speed away from the shooting scene, prosecutors said. A key fob to a Chrysler 300 was found on Fields, and the vehicle matching the fob and car in the surveillance video was located nearby.

Authorities said they also found a firearm during Fields' arrest, and shell casings from the murder scene matched the weapon.

The jury recommended Fields serve 15 years for murder and three years for armed criminal action. Sentencing is set for Dec. 9.

Fields lives in the 10000 block of Dorothy Lane in Riverview.

A Riverview man, 18, has been charged with murder in connection to a homicide in Pine Lawn last fall.
