JACKSBORO, Tenn. ( WATE ) — A driver has died and a passenger was injured in a crash stemming from a police pursuit on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

A 25-year-old Tennessee driver identified as Cassie Miller died, according to a THP report, while a 55-year-old Tennessee man was injured. Both were wearing seat belts.

CCSO stated in a post shared on social media that around 1:20 p.m. Nov. 6, deputies attempted to stop on a vehicle in the Valley View community.

"The driver of the vehicle did not comply, fleeing from law enforcement officers and leading them on a brief pursuit," CCSO stated.

The pursuit continued onto Howard Road, CCSO said, where the vehicle "subsequently crashed while evading deputies."

A preliminary crash report from THP indicates that the 2010 Hyundai Elantra driven by Miller was traveling south on Howard Road "attempting to allude a Campbell County Sheriff's Deputy." They attempted to negotiate a right curve when the vehicle ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree, then came to an uncontrolled final rest on a sloped embankment off the left side of the road.
