"I don't have the power to make change. I have the power to bring people together and be a voice for my sister-in-law, and to hopefully find someone, have someone hear us that can make the change. And I don't know what that change is. Our family doesn't know what that necessarily is, but we know someone needs to make a change," explained Alyssa's sister-in-law, Abby Lokits,

The resolution recognizes Lokits was active in the community as an advocate and former board member of the Mary Parrish Center, which provides comprehensive services to survivors of interpersonal and domestic violence. She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a PhD.
