Local player scores ace



Jerry Klug of Mountain Top scored a hole in one on Tuesday at Blue Ridge
Trail Golf Club in Dorrance Township. He made the shot on the 175-yard No. 7
hole. The shot was witnessed by Jack McGreevy, Mark Flaherty and Jim Brown.



FIELD HOCKEY

Comets rank 2nd in U.S.



The Crestwood High School field hockey team is ranked second in the nation
in the preseason poll by TopOfTheCircle.com, a national Web site devoted to
field hockey and lacrosse.

Eastern Regional of Vorhees, N.J., is ranked first. Rounding out the top 10
is Marathon, N.Y.; East Chapel Hill, N.C.; Lower Dauphin, Pa.; Moorestown,
N.J.; Wilmington Tower Hill, Del.; Dexter, Maine; Emmaus, Pa.; and San Diego
Scripps Ranch, Calif.

Crestwood, which ranked fourth nationally last season after winning the
PIAA Class 2A state championship, opens Wyoming Valley Conference play on
Sept. 3 at Bishop O’Reilly. Lake-Lehman and Wyoming Valley West were listed
among teams to watch in the rankings.



AREA COLLEGES

King’s recruit misses year



Former Gloucester Catholic, N.J., High School girls basketball standout
Lauren Kendra missed out an on opportunity to play her senior year after
suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

But Kendra will have an opportunity to play at the next level when she
continues her academic and athletic pursuits at King’s College.

A 5-foot-7 guard, Kendra will return to the floor at King’s. In her final
season as a junior, Kendra helped Gloucester Catholic to a 21-4 record by
averaging 10.6 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.1 steals per-game.

She was a three-time all-conference selection, earning honorable mention
honors as a freshman while being selected to the second team as a sophomore
and junior. She has been an active off-season player, competing with the Sure
Shots and Tar Heels AAU teams for seven years.
