Cold weather, mixed precipitation possible this week

Grab those winter coats and gloves — it’s going to be a chilly week in the Wyoming Valley.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 35 degrees as of 8:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Overcast skies greeted residents this morning.

Cloudy skies are expected to stick around today, with a high in the lower 40s. There will be a chance of rain, snow and sleet before 1 a.m. tonight — that precipitation will become likely after 1 a.m., followed by rain most likely after 4 a.m. Little or no snow or sleet accumulation is expected. Tonight’s low will be in the lower 30s.

There is a 100 percent chance of rain predicted for Monday, with up to three quarters of an inch of rain possible. Monday’s high will be in the lower 40s.

Cloudy skies will gradually become partly cloudy on Monday night, with a chance of rain before 10 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected. Monday night’s low will be in the lower 20s.

Partly sunny skies will kick off the day on Tuesday, with scattered flurries possible after 1 p.m. Gusty winds are also possible, with gusts as high as 31 miles per hour. Tuesday’s high will be near 30 degrees.

Partly cloudy skies, and scattered flurries, are predicted for Tuesday night, with a low in the upper teens.

Sunny skies will return to the Wyoming Valley on Wednesday, with a high in the lower 30s. Partly cloudy skies will follow on Wednesday night, with a low in the lower 20s.
