It looks like Old Man Winter is playing an early April Fools’ joke on the Wyoming Valley.
Much of the area received at least a few inches of fresh snow, along with a thin layer of ice overnight into this morning. The surprise winter weather made for a cautious morning commute due to slick roadways.
The National Weather Service reported that it was 32 degrees at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport as of about 7 a.m. this morning.
The skies will gradually begin to clear throughout the day, with temperatures surging to a high of 51 degrees today. Mostly clear skies are expected tonight, with the low dropping to the upper 20s.
Sunny skies are predicted for Tuesday, with a high in the upper 50s expected. Partly cloudy skies are expected for Tuesday night, with the low only dropping to about 37 degrees.
Partly sunny skies on Wednesday will lead to a chance for showers after 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The high will once again climb to the high 50s. There is a 30 percent chance of rain.
That chance of rain will carry on mainly before 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, followed by mostly cloudy skies for the rest of the night. Wednesday night’s low will drop to the upper 30s.
