Ex-security guard accused of having sex with student at Eastpointe High School

A former security guard at Eastpointe High School has been arraigned on charges of having sex with a female student at the school, according to prosecutors.

Darieon Craig Lamar Webster, 26, of Detroit, was arraigned Thursday in 38th District Court on two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Judge Kathleen Galen set bond at $150,000 cash/surety.

Prosecutors said the sexual encounter took place Tuesday somewhere in the high school, which is located on Couzens Avenue, in the Nine Mile Road-Gratiot Avenue area of the city.

"This is a serious breach of trust and responsibility. When someone in a position of authority abuses that trust, it harms not only the victim but the entire community," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said.

Eastpointe Community Schools officials said Webster was employed by a third-party security company and not directly by the district. His contract has been terminated, they added.

District spokesperson Caitlyn Kienitz said officials at the high school were notified by students and staff about the " inappropriate consensual relationship" involving a female, who is in the 12th grade. They promptly reported their concerns to school administration, she said.

"Upon learning of the situation, the administration, with district support, immediately initiated an investigation, notified law enforcement, contacted the student's family, and worked with the security company to terminate the security guard's contract effective immediately," Kienitz said.

Kienitz went on to say Eastpointe Community Schools is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive educational environment.

"All concerns are reviewed thoroughly and handled in accordance with best practices," Kienitz said. "Students, staff members, and teachers are only able to remain in the classroom and our schools if they agree to behave in a way that reflects our district values and policies."

If convicted, Webster faces up to 15 years in prison.

Court records do not list an attorney who could comment on Webster's behalf.

The suspect is being held in the Macomb County Jail. If he is able to post bond, Webster was ordered to wear a steel GPS tether, have no contact with minors and no internet access.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 30.
