John Halchak, 76, of Sheridan Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Hospice
Community Care at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in the Askam section of Hanover Township, he was a son of the late
John and Pearl (Homick) Halchak. He attended Warrior Run High School. He was a
laborer for Local 215 for 30 years and served as a constable in the
Wilkes-Barre area. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member
of Holy Trinity Church, East South Street, Wilkes-Barre, serving as an usher
for many years.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Frank; and sister,
Mary Kotch.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Catherine Pikaitis; sons,
Donald, Slocum Township; Gerald, Wilkes-Barre; Jack, at home; and Anthony,
Mountaintop; daughter, Kathleen Christopher, Wilkes-Barre; 13 grandchildren;
brother, Russell, West Nanticoke; and sisters, Anne Kaczmarczyk, Askam; Julie
Fromel, Buttonwood, Hanover Township; Jean Syroid, Luzerne; and Helen Cwalina,
Askam.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the John W. Frank Funeral Home,
at Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear
Creek. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
