Snow Possible As Arctic Air Moves Into NJ: Latest Forecast Temperatures will drop as "the coldest air of the season so far" moves into the region, with snow possible in portions of New Jersey.

NEW JERSEY —Those waiting for the first snow of the season in the Garden State may not have to wait long. A cold air mass with gusty winds is set to move across the area and pull temperatures into the 20s Monday night into Tuesday and produce lake effect snow.

Winds will begin increasing Monday as temperatures are set to drop overnight, forecasters with the National Weather Service and AccuWeather said. Tuesday will be partly cloudy and cold, and blowing snow could make driving conditions difficult in parts of the state.

Expect highs Tuesday to top out in the low-to-mid 30s, possibly reaching 40 in coastal areas — though it will feel colder. Wind chills will register in the 20s in places, as wind gusts will be in the 25 to 35 mile-per-hour range, said the National Weather Service.

As of the latest forecast, flurries and snow squalls are most likely to affect counties in northwestern New Jersey. A light dusting is possible, but no major accumulation is expected.

“It is possible a few snow showers or flurries get at least a little farther south and east Tuesday afternoon,” the National Weather Service said in their weekly outlook. “The main theme will be the coldest air of the season so far, and there will be an added wind chill as well.”

AccuWeather forecasters added that snow squalls can quickly reduce visibility, especially on the interstate. The bulk of lake-effect snow looks to be affecting northern Pennsylvania, upstate New York, and parts of Vermont according to the AccuWeather forecast.

"There is growing concern that in addition to snow showers encompassing much of the interior Northeast on Tuesday, that snow squalls may be more expansive compared to the rest of the lake-effect event," added AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tyler Roys.

Wednesday will also be cold, forecasters added, before a bit of a warm-up Thursday and a chance of rain this weekend.
